A Mix Magazine Photo Shoot

Mick Guzauski in Bicoastal Studios, Ossining, NY

The year; 2007. In all, there were sixteen of us at a recording studio in Ossining, New York. A brand new state of the art masterpiece of a studio that would wow just about any mainstream recording artist. I was invited through a friend to attend a Mix Magazine (the magazine for the recording industry) photoshoot and eventual cover story for this beautiful facility.

Among the small group of us, there was Mick Guzauski, some of whose production and engineering credits include: Brian McKnight, Michael Jackson, LeAnn Rimes, Eric Clapton, The Corrs, BB King, Brandy, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Michael McDonald, Patti LaBelle, Quincy Jones, Michael Bolton, Kenny G, George Benson, Cher, Mariah Carey, and Pharrell Williams. (In 2006 he also received a Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album),

Others included Rob Thomas (Matchbox Twenty), Neil Dorfsman (producer and engineer for Dire Straits, Bruce Hornsby, Paul McCartney, and Sting).  The main event was going to be Producer/Engineer Mick Guzauski unveiled for the first time, the remastered 5:1 surround mix for Michael Jackson’s Thriller album.

He dropped a bomb on us right before we gave it a listen. He said the sixteen of us would most likely be the only ones to ever hear this incredible production because at the time MJ found himself immersed in troublesome allegations once again and the label decided to hold off on the remastered release.

I was actually one of the few people on the planet to hear this incredible masterpiece. An absolute sonic work of art!
